Pastel : Le medium de peinture, une étude de la sous-couche (underpainting)

This workshop explores the many functions of underpainting, in support of pastel painting, but could easily be applied to other mediums. We will start the week with traditional approaches and benefits of underpainting, such as monochromatic studies, warm/cool compliments, unification, and high key/low key contrast. As we go through the week, non-traditional approaches will emerge, that require spontaneity and a looser approach. The morning will be structured with theory,  lecture, exercises in composition and painting, while the afternoons will be open for independent work and one on one critique. Which approaches are right and natural for them as they move toward a more dynamic element in their artmaking and expression. Cost: $350.00+hst
